This cigarette-case shaped box has been painted by a well-known Fedoskino artist Natalya Orlova. Quiet often Orlova is picking up very unusual subjects for her works.This work is called "Swamp Keeper", and shows a young fairy that resides in a swamp and protect all alive being against any trouble.
The palette of the painting is rich and bright. Gold metal leaf is inlaid into the fairy's hair and richly decorated background. Gold metal powder is used to highlight the grass and the bushes. The painting is spread on the box's lid and its sides while the box's exterior is traditionally red.The bottom of the box imitates a stone color of light blue tone.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene and the box rests on four glass beads. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, Fedoskino and the year of 2011 on the oval piece of mother-of-pearl glued to the box's interior bottom.
