Description: This large five-sided casket is a creation of talented and well-known Fedoskino artist Alexey Puchkov. Alexey continuing to paint the boxes after of his father-Peter Puchkov, who was world-known Fedoskino Master, famous of his architectural and landscape compositions.
On the top of a casket we can see famous Moscow St.Basil's Cathedral. This gem of ancient Russian architecture was built by order of Ivan the Terrible in 1561 to commemorate to the victory over Kazan and Astrakhan Khanate. The Cathedral is located in the Red Square of Moscow.
On the front side of the casket we can see the picturesque of St.Trinity Sergious Monastery in the town of Sergeiev Posad.
The monastery was founded in 1345 by one of the most venerated Russian saints, Sergius of Radonezh, who built a wooden church in honour of the Holy Trinity on Makovets Hill. Early development of the monastic community is well documented in contemporary lives of Sergius and his disciples.
In 1355, Sergius introduced a charter which required the construction of auxiliary buildings, such as refectory, kitchen, and bakery. This charter was a model for Sergius' numerous followers who founded more than 400 cloisters all over Russia, including the celebrated Solovetsky, Kirilov, and Simonov monasteries.
St. Sergius supported Dmitri Donskoi in his struggle against the Tatars and sent two of his monks, Peresvet and Oslyabya, to participate in the Battle of Kulikovo (1380). At the outbreak of the battle, Peresvet died in a single combat against a Tatar warrior. The monastery was devastated by fire, when a Tatar unit raided the area in 1408.
On the left side of the casket we can see the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, located in St. Petersburg.
And on the right side of the casket the Temple of Christ the Saviour (Moscow)
On the back side of the casket we can see the painting of town of Suzdal.
Suzdal is one of the major religious centers of Russian Orthodoxy. It was the capital of the Rostov-Suzdal Principality in the 11th century. Located approximately 200 km from Moscow, it is now an important tourist center that features many fine examples of old Russian architecture.
White, gray and blue tones of oil paints help the artist to create an atmosphere of a dull winter day. Shining pieces of mother-of-pearl are inlaid into the architecture of the cathedrals. Gold metal leaf helps to create a sparkle of the domes, crosses, roofs, some of the trees and also produces bright splashes in the sky.
The casket is made of paper-mache, has signed with the artist name and the name of the each side's painting!
