This stunning box has been painted by artist Sokolova from the village of Fedoskino. It shows the beautiful lady with a fan that represents the allegory of Summer.
The scene is painted in bright oils over silver paint that enriches the palette and adds a magical luster that shines through the oils. Sparkling gold paint is used to detail the lady's dress, her fan, and also to create an elegant pattern around the scene. A piece of mother-of-pearl that has delicate greenish and pink undertones is set into the lady's fan. Dazzling!
Sokolova's skill as an artist is further demonstrated on the rich ornamentation that adorns the box. The box's exterior imitates the coloring of a stone (tiny pink veins are scattered against the light green background). The gorgeous flowers of Madonna lilies are painted in oils on the box's exterior bottom. The box's sides are decorated with silver scan patterns. The box's interior is traditionally red, but the interior borders are outlined with gold.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the year of 2007.
