Description:

One of the leading Fedoskino painters, Pavel Anokhin, has painted this charming box.
As in many of his works Anokhin has used allegory and some underwrite ideas. I'm trying to get you the explanations that I got from Mr.Anokhin:
Here we can see a painter who is doing a drawing of a little fly. Fly here is personified as a little creation (of God). On the other hand, we can see on the background of the composition the portrait of the artist itself, but painted by OTHER artist. And the artist who painted this portrait also has thought about the artist who now is painted this little fly as of a something little. Resume: there is always somebody whom your giant things looks little. P.S. The work is called "The role of an Artist" and through a prism of his own work Anokhin was thinking of a Role of an Artist in the Universe...
Anokhin's otherworldly style and subtle palette are easily recognizable. The palette includes very soft grey, blue and brown tones. Gold metal powder shines through the hair of the artist. The composition is framed with a gold band. The sides of the box and the part of a lid are decorated with continuous gold line painted over a gray lacquer, that may remind of a puzzle.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and gray lacquer covers the interior of the box, except the bottom-it is black. The box has a hinge from the top of the composition, and rests on four metal legs. The work is signed with the artist's name.
