This charming box has been painted by Taisia Danchenko. The work is called "Follies", and shows a pretty girl and a young guy flirting. The girl is drawn in traditional Russian costume of the 18th Century and a young guy is in a costume of a clown Petrushka.The guy is trying to get attention of a girl by pulling one of her hair plaits. Girl is wearing traditional cocoshnik on her head. She is returning from a market place, where she has got a rooster, that she is carrying in a basket.
The scene is framed with gold line; gold line also can be found wrapping around the edges of the box's bottom part. The box's exterior is covered with a blue paint mixed with gold powder. The interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.There are four crystals in four corners on the lid incrustated in the it.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the title on the box's exterior bottom.
