Description: Margarita Belova from the village of Fedoskino has a talent to create alluring boxes that have a special magnetism. The level of her artistic skill improves with each her new creation. She is one of the LEADING contemporary Fedoskino artists whose works are acquired by lacquer miniature enthusiasts from different countries!
The work is called "Cherivitchki", and features two characters from the story "Christmas Eve", part of a collection called "Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka", written by Nikolay Gogol.
The scene is showing Vakula the Smith with a pillow on which he has brought very nice shoes-cherivichki (The Tsarina's Slippers) for his beloved Oksana.
The synopsis of the story can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherevichki
The scene is painted in bright oils. A brilliant gold and silver paints are used to detail the characters' costumes. Also you can find some white spots on the painting...it is not a mistake or fault of the artist, this way the artist has painted the falling snowflakes!!!
The painting is bordered with luxuriant silver scan patterns (made of tiny shapes hand punched from silver metal sheets, and then glued to the box manually). The box exterior is covered with a mixture of gray , blue and white oils imitating a stone marble. The box's interior is traditionally covered with red lacquer.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. It has a hinge from the left of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, the title, and the village of Fedoskino at the bottom of the depicted scene.
Superb work!
