One of the leading Fedoskino artists, Rogatov Dmitriy, is the author of this stunning box. The work is called "Under the Water", and features two Mermaids that are trying to take under the water a young man (painted on the top of the box). On the back side of the box we can see a Water Spirit who is riding a huge Cat-fish. Water-spirits, mermaids and the Sea Tsar are main characters of many Russian fairy-tales and stories.
The box is painted in dark blue and white contrast colors.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the box, and the box rests flat. The exterior of the piece is covered with black lacquer while the interior is covered with dark red lacquer. The work is signed with the name of the artist and the year of 2011.
