This splendid box is the original author's work of the talented Oleg Nechaev from the village of Fedoskino. It features a scene from a Tale of Ivan Tsarevich in the under Kingdom.
The scene is mostly painted in delicate blue oils. The Armour of Ivan is richly decorated with lustrous gold paint.
The box's exterior is decorated with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny beads and romps hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and rests on four legs. Signed with the title ("A Battle with a Snake"), the artist's name and another title "Tale of Ivan Tsarevich in the underground Kingdom".
