Description: This exquisite work is a creation of talented Fedoskino artist Alexander Maslov. His brother- Vladislav Maslov, is famous of his unusual vision and technique of painting, so here is a creation of an older brother-Alexander.
One of the box's sides shows the forester playing chess with a forest which-Baba Yaga. Since ancient times black color in Russia is associated with a phenomenon of the other world.
The scene is brilliantly painted in Maslov's signature style and elaborately detailed with shining silver and gold powders. Some of the details like the ladybird crawling across the wall , the moon and the spider painted in the right bottom of the composition are crafted three-dimensionally. All three-dimensional details are painted over mother-of-pearl inlay.
The box's exterior imitates a stone color achieved by a mixture of turquoise oils with gold powder and bright blue spangles. The interior is covered with green and orange oils mixed with silver powder and decorated with turquoise, pink, and crimson blurry spots. On the square piece of mother-of-pearl the artist has written the title of the work ("Chess"), his name and the year of 2011.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The box has a hinge.
