This gem of Fedoskino lacquer miniature art was created by well-known artist Vladislav Maslov. This five-sided and richly decorated box shows several scenes from Lewis Carroll's classic tale "Alice in Wonderland". On the top side we can see a five o'clock tea party in the Hat's house. On the front side of the box we can see growing Alice's hand coming out of the window. The right side shows the Caterpillar who smokes the hookah.
The work is painted in Maslov's recognizable style. The composition is filled with an innumerable number of masterfully painted details. Silver and gold powder shine through the oils accentuating richness of the characters' costumes and some other minor details. Strait bands of mother-of-pearl are set into the front and back sides and to the top side.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Red lacquer mixed with a silver paint covers the box's exterior bottom and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on five pearl legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2012 and the title on the inner side of a lid on a square piece of mother-of-pearl over Alice's portrait.
