This festive box has been painted by the talented Fedoskino artist, Konstantin Komogorov. The work is called "Pirates".
The scene is painted in bright oil paints to create a festal mood. Shining pieces of gold metal leaf that can be found in the costumes of the characters, water waves and trees.
The edges of the lid are adorned with a wide gold band that is extended on the box's sides.
On the bottom of the box's exterior the artist has used several real old coins.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name on the gun on the box's exterior bottom.
