This box has been painted by the famous artist Yuriy Aldoshkin from the village of Fedoskino. It shows the picturesque view of St. Basil's Cathedral. This gem of ancient Russian architecture was built by order of Ivan the Terrible in 1561 to commemorate to the victory over Kazan and Astrakhan Khanate.
The palette is bright and radiant. Gold paint is used to highlight the cathedral. A large piece of mother-of-pearl shines through the architecture, and through the sky.
The scene is bordered with a gold line.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the piece. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed with the artist's name, and the village of Fedoskino.
