This charming box has been painted by well-known Fedoskino artist Tamara Volodina. Painted in various shades of blue and gray oils, it shows an elf-boy and an elf-girl who are gathering apples from an apple tree.
The scene is extended on the box's sides where the artist continues to paint apples and branches. Almost all golden apples depicted here are crafted three-dimensionally. Gold paint and gold metal leaf inlay are used to detail the costumes of the characters and their wings.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The box's exterior is covered with creamy gray lacquer while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title ("Forest Apples"), and the year of 2013.
