Description:

Eduard Makarov is one of the most original Fedoskino artists working today. His creations draw from a variety of sources, and all have a magical quality that is truly unique. The theme of this box is Mikhail Bulgakov's novel "The Master and Margarita".
The Master and Margarita is a novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, woven around the premise of a visit by the Devil to the fervently atheistic Soviet Union. Many critics consider the book to be one of the greatest novels of the 20th century, as well as one of the foremost Soviet satires, directed against a suffocatingly bureaucratic social order!
In this box Makarov has painted major characters on the theme of Bulgakov's novel, and his unusual surrealistic images only adds a charm to this exquisite box!
Some of major characters can be found on this half-sphere box.
According to Makarov, in this splendid work he has tried to reproduce the mystical atmosphere of novel by means of peculiar color combinations and surrealistic images.
As usual, Makarov makes the composition multi-layered to get a three-dimensional effect and create a dynamic experience for the eye. The palette is also distinctive; it includes beautifully combined blue, green and yellow oils, and various metallic powders and paints to give a feeling of magic and splendor. This jewel, iridescent palette which is a signature trait of Makarov's lacquer art, reproduces a sensation that the box glows as though lit from within. Some areas of the composition shine with mother-of-pearl inlay; in some places mother-of-pearl helps to create three-dimensional elements!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on four metal legs. On the box's exterior bottom the artist has written his name, Fedoskino, Russia, the year of 2012 and the title "The Master and Margarita".
