Description: This is one more gorgeous box from Alexey Otryaskin that features some scenes from the Tale of Princess Frog. Here we can see Ivan Tsarevich who has found the Baba-Yaga's hut in the forest. He asks Baba-Yaga where his beloved wife, Vasilisa the Wise, is hidden. Baba-Yaga tells him that Vasilisa is kidnapped by Koshchey the Deathless whose death is contained in the chest that is hung on the old oak.
To the right of the Baba-Yaga's hut Otryaskin has painted Vasilisa the Wise who looks through the window of Koshchey's castle. Koshchey is also painted here. He keeps watch over Vasilisa sitting on one the towers of his castle. This scene is painted over a shining piece of mother-of-pearl cut in the form of an arched window.
Besides these main scenes the composition is filled with a great number of minor details including various animals, birds, plants, trees, and even forest spirits peeping out of the stubs and branches of the fir trees. In the left upper corner the native kingdom of Ivan Tsarevich is depicted.
The composition is painted in various shades of green and brown oils suitable for depiction an action that takes place in the forest. Each element drawn here is highlighted richly with silver and gold paints.
The box's exterior is covered with dark blue lacquer mixed with silver dust, while its interior is traditionally red. The box's sides are decorated with a nice gold pattern.
The box is made out of paper-mache. It has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, and the title ("Searching for the Lost Vasilisa").
