Description:

This charming box has been painted by a talented artist Olisova Larisa.
In the composition the artist depicts the theme of tea drinking which is traditional for Fedoskino lacquer miniature painting. This kind of scene was very popular during the Vishnyakov and Lukutin era. The depiction of peasants, their daily life, feasts, and traditions excellently show us the soul of Russian people. The characters of such scenes sit still as if they pose to a photographer or perform a play for the public.
The scene shows two young beautiful woman, serving up a plateful of appetizing baranki. The scene is taking place in a small town neither in a large village. Girls sit outside and one of them is feeding a dog, a cat near by is looking around, cockerel with two hens are near the foot of another girl.
The miniature is neatly done and follows the traditions of Fedoskino master Oleg Shapkin. The characters have their own personalities and facial expressions, showing various levels of emotion. The artist uses a palette with realistic brown and green tones, and infusions of bright paints for emphasis. A beautiful inlay of gold lights up almost all elements of the composition (Samovar, domes of the cathedrals and partly grass) and provides a nice enhancement to the work without overpowering the painting. The figures of the ladies and a cockerel are painted over the large pieces of mother-of-pearl!
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition and the box sits on a wavy platform. The sides of the box are decorated with the rich gold floral pattern. Signed with the name of the artist, village and a title- Tea drinking.
