This wonderful creation of the Top Fedoskino Master Sergey Kovlov is showing us a charming beauty of the ancient Russian town of Suzdal.
Russian medieval architecture of white stoned cathedrals and ramshackle wooden peasant houses look harmonious on the Winter landscape. The scene is painted in light gray and blue tones of oils and this rather monotonous palette is enlivened by silver metal powder, mother-of-pearl inlay and gold metal paint that is used to paint the crosses of the cathedrals and birds. On the river on the left hand-side we can see two small boats. Because of that we can indicade that this is the beggining of winter...
In this work Kozlov has united two of his favorite themes - landscape and architecture and as usual here he displayed his high level of professionalism!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The scene is framed with silver shapes cut out of gold and silver metal foil, and glued to the box manually(so called "scan"). The sides are decorated with similar silver band made of "scan". A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2014.
