Description:

Sergey Kozlov from the village of Fedoskino created this splendid architectural scene. Kozlov is a living legend of the Lacquer Miniature Art. His unique works are displayed in every latest catalogue or book on the Russian Lacquer Art! As well as many museums and private collectors are proud to have any of his masterpiece! It is a pleasure to acquire a work of such prominent artist.
This box was painted for a particular Expo, devoted to a celebration of the 700th anniversary of Sergey Radonezhsky, that took a place in the end of July 2014.
The composition depicts the St. Trinity Sergious Monastery located in the town of Sergiev Posad , one of the most interesting towns in Russia. The town was built in the 14th century as a settlement around the St. Trinity Monastery established by reverend Saint Sergious Radonezhsky. He was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church and became one of the most honored Russian Saints. The St. Trinity Sergious Monastery was one of the largest monasteries founded in Russia in the 14th-15th centuries. In 1774 it was elevated to the status of Lavra (the Greek word "laura" means monastery), i.e. the monastery of the highest rank. The Sergious Lavra played an important role in the history of the formation of the centralized Russian State and in the development of the Russian culture. Due to its wealth, the monastery could afford to invite the best architects and icon painters for the construction and decoration of the buildings. Icon painters Andrey Rublev and Daniel Chorny worked there, they decorated with frescoes the main church of the monastery - the Trinity Cathedral. The cathedral keeps the imperishable relics of Reverend Sergious. For many centuries his tomb has been the place of pilgrimage for orthodox believers. It is impossible to overestimate the importance of the monastery and its founder for the history of Russia. It is the basis that supports Russian spirituality, statehood, and national character. The Trinity-St. Sergius Laura grounds include the biggest Russian monastery, the monastery necropolis and the Moscow Ecclesiastical Academy and Seminary. There remains a historical and architectural XV-XIX century ensemble of churches, belfries and chambers.
The white-stoned Cathedral that rises above a small town is brilliantly painted. Kozlov paints with a fine brush, achieving almost invisible transitions of colors. Refined oil-painting techniques give this scene depth and life. Various shades of white color helps to reproduce atmosphere of sunset. Aluminum powder that highlights the rippled surface of copulas, some areas of the skies.
The composition is painted without inlayed pieces of-mother-of-pearl, but if you will turn it to the light under different angles, you will see the play of silver and gold colors in this work! Sure, it takes a lot of skills and experience to paint the masterpieces of such quality!
The composition is framed with metal silver shapes cut out of silver metal foil, and glued to the box manually(so called "scan"). The box's sides are decorated with more complex "scan" work.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes its interior. It has a hinge from the top of the composition and rests on a flat bottom. Signed and dated (2014) by the dark oils under the composition.
Fine box!
