Description: This marvelous box that depicts a scene from Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale "Thumbelina" is a creation of talented artist Volodina Tamara.
Thumbelina was a tiny girl who was born from a flower. During the story she has many adventures, and meets many animals, some of them became her friends and some of them were not so nice. For a long time she was alone, but she befriends a swallow who takes her away to a warm country where she meets a fairy prince. The prince takes her as his bride and they live happily ever after.
The scene is painted in bright oil paints to create a festal mood.Gold metal leaves are shines in several parts of the composition: lady's dress, flowers and Thumbelina's dress.
The scene is extended on the box's sides where the artist continues to paint flowers, herbs and ladybirds. Each of the ladybirds depicted here are crafted three-dimensionally.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Gray creamy lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, year 2014, and the village of Fedoskino at the exterior's bottom.
