This small and attractive box has been painted by well-known Fedoskino artist Tamara Volodina. Painted in various shades of blue and gray oils, it shows the elf boy who declares his love to his elf girl-friend.
The scene is extended on the box's sides where the artist continues to paint flowers, herbs and ladybirds. Each of the ladybirds depicted here are crafted three-dimensionally. The wings of Elf boy are three dimensional as well! Gold paint and gold metal leaf inlay are used to detail the costumes of the characters. A small piece of mother-of-pearl that shines with bright green-bluish undertones is set into the blouse of the elf girl who is "holding" one of ladybirds in her hand.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The box's exterior is covered with creamy gray lacquer while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, the title "Declaration (of Love"), and the year of 2014.
