This adorable Fedoskino box is an original master work of Sergey Knyazev. The work is called "The Night Fairy", and shows the beautiful lady who represents an allegorical depiction of Night as the artist imagines it. Fairy is accompanied with an owl,that sits on one of the branches of the tree.
Dark tones of oils suitable for depiction of the chosen theme predominate here. Pieces of mother-of-pearl that have bright greenish, pink, lilac, blue and yellow undertones shine through the wings of the fairy, the lamp in her hands and the owl's body. The box's sides are decorated with an elegant golden pattern and the silver line.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Blue lacquer mixed with gold powder is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer mixed with gold powder completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the title on the interiror of the lid of the box.
