This magnificent work is an original creation of the outstanding Fedoskino artist, Oleg Nechaev. It shows a scene from the Russian folk fairy-tale "Behind Stove Spark". Behind Stove Spark is a complex name of the Russian bogatyr.
In this tale Baba-Yaga has stolen the keys from the Sun and the Moon and kept them in her Hut on Chicken Legs. Nobody could take the keys away from Baba-Yaga as her Hut on Chicken Legs was protected by her children, - Three Headed Dragon, Six Headed Dragon and Twelve Headed Dragon. The bogatyr Behind Stove Spark managed to kill the dragons and release the Sun and the Moon.
The dragons in this composition look like Koshchey the Deathless who is one of the favorite Nechaev's characters. The Sun and the Moon look like beautiful ladies chained to the wall. The scene is painted in blue tones of oils. A fairy-tale atmosphere is strengthened by the shining gold and silver pieces of gold metal leaf inlaid into different part of the composition.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer mixed with gold dust completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the left, and the box rests on four legs. The box's exterior is adorned with masterfully designed gold scan ornaments (composed of gold metal shapes glued to the box manually). The work is signed with the artist's name, and the title ("Behind Stove Spark. The keys from the Moon and the Sun").
