ATTENTION: this box was displayed on an Expo devoted to the 220th anniversary of Fedoskino Art, which took place in the historical place of Moscow, Kolomenskoye district, from May till October 2016!
This brilliant example of Fedoskino realism has been created by Boris Shavyrin. The box shows the full-length portrait of a falconer admiring his bird. In old Russia falconers had to supply game to the tsar's court and got some benefits therefore. The background is filled with Russian landscape.
Bright oils are used to paint the costume of the falconer while the background is painted in light grey tones. Falconer's costume is richly decorated with gold paint. Several pieces of mother-of-pearl are shines through the costume of the falconer. The artist has used green mother-of-pearl on the sleeves of the falconer, amazing contrast!
The composition is framed with a rich gold line.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The sides of the box are imitates the color of brown marble. A hinge is fastened to the left of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2015.
