This round box showing some peasants at a trade fair was painted by Fedoskino artist Sdobnova. It's a frosty winter day. Several girls wrapped in warm shawls have come to a seller of bubliks (bagels).A man near by is drinking tea. Behind them, in the background, we can see several kiosks and groups of people buying different goods.
The artist demonstrates filigree skill in decorating small objects with amazing precision. Small piece of mother-of-pearl is shines through the roofs of the trade points on the background.
The scene is very colorful, festive and decorative. The white tones of snow don't look monotonous owing to the characters' costumes painted in bright tones.
Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work.The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on the legs, which comes from a wavy platform. Signed with the artist's name and Fedoskino.
