Description:

This splendid box has been painted by Otryaskin Alexey from the village of Fedoskino.
Here we can see the picturesque view of St.Petersburg. Two gold winged bronze lions located on the stone pedestal of the bridge decorate the embankment of the Niva River. At the background of the composition the artist has depicted the Savior on the Blood Cathedral.
The scene is painted in different shades of blue and gray. These tones correspond perfectly to the atmosphere of the city called "Russian Venice".
Bright gold paints are used to paint two of the Cathedral's domes, and the wings of the lions. Gold, sparkling wings of the lions are the embellishment of the whole scene. One piece of mother-of-pearl is inlaid in the the waters of the river, and the other two ones are inlaid in the skies from both sides of the Cathedral.
The scene is framed with a golden ornament which goes on the edge of the lid. Gold ornamentation decorates the box's sides. Brown lacquer mixed with a silver powder is used to paint the exterior of the scene while red lacquer completes the interior of the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist name, Fedoskino and title "St.Petersburg".
