Description:

This colorful box was painted by a well-known master,Boris Shavirin, from the village of Fedoskino.
The box shows a street in the 18th century in Russia in Winter time. This theme is traditional for Russian lacquer miniature art and very popular among modern artists. On the front, we can see young lady carrying the buckles full of water on a shoulder yoke. She dressed in traditional Russian costume of the 18th century. On the back side we can see other citizen. One of them, a young lad, is trying talk to this lady. He is stretching his hand to this lady and saying something, probably trying to get acquainted with her. The costumes of all the characters are richly decorated with gold paint!
The palette incorporates blue and white oils as the action takes place in winter, with addition of gold and silver metal paints. The artist demonstrates his unsurpassed skill while painting the charackter's festive attires. The effect of festivity is strengthened by two pieces of mother-of-pear inlaid into the costumes of the characters; one shimmers beautifully with bright green and blue tints from a dress of the lady up front, and the other one inlayed in a white dress of the lady to the right on the back.
Rich gold line frames the composition. The box's sides imitates the color of brown marble; the bottom is black, while the interior of the box is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The box has a hinge to the left from the scene and rests on a flat surface. It is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino and the year (2017).
Fine piece of Fedoskino Art!!!
