Description: Top Fedoskino master Sergey Kozlov has painted this original composition.
Sergey is a member of the Union artists, participant of large amount of exhibitions and his works are represented in EVERY book on Russian Lacquer Art theme (Fedoskino school). His works are kept in all major Folk Art Museums in Russia and private collection World Wide.
Even know that Sergey is a specialist in architectural scenes, you can easy recognize his style: soft gray tones, architectural buildings of a village on the backstage and the way he paints the trees that we can see behind the troyka.
This composition show us a celebrating of Maslenitsa(or pan-cake week).
This feast is arranged to send off the cold winter and welcome the beginning of warm spring. It usually takes place the week before the Lenten fast. In ancient times Maslenitsa included different magic and religious rites that afterwards transformed into traditional folk customs, such as burning of a woman of straw that embodies the winter, baking of sacrificial bread - pancakes, dressing masquerades, various games, driving in a sledge at high speed and many others. Celebration is in full swing as people are having a good time inside and out of doors.
On this composition we can see a group of villagers driving the three horses(troyka) in a sledge at high speed. All these young men have musical instruments, I bet they are screaming ang yelling, signing songs and having fun!
Various shades of gray and blue help to reproduce atmosphere of a winter day. Aluminum powder that highlights the rippled surface of the trees, some areas of the sky and the snow, tones beautifully with the main snowy palette. A cleverly added inlay of mother-of-pearl shines through the skies almost in the middle of the composition.
The scene is framed with a gold scan pattern composed of shapes hand punched from gold metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box. The box's sides are decorated with a silver "scan" work.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The box's exterior is painted in dark blue paint and its interior is painted red.
It has a hinge from the top of the composition and rests on a flat bottom. The box is signed with artist name, dated (2018) and Fedoskino under the composition.
Comes in custom made package/storage box, with initials of the artist!
