Talented family tandem of the Komogorovs, Konstantin and Svetalana, are the authors of this splendid box.
In the middle of the composition the artists have painted Yelena the Wise who is a main character of the fairy-tale Yelena the Wise with a soldier. Around her various animals and birds of her kingdom were gathered to listen to her.
Short plot of the story is following:
Once upon the time one soldier came to guard a prison. A prisoner was a devil. Soldier let the devil go and devil promissed to fulfil his wishes. Soldier run from the service and went by the road, but wanted to eat. He asked devil, and he took soldier to his palace, to guard his three daughters, in exchange soldier will always have a meal.
Once soldier saw the maidens disappeared at night. The other night he decide to follow them. At midnight three maidens has touch magic carpet and turns into birds. Soldier did the same and follow them. They flew to a glade in a forest and in a minute they saw Elena the Wise, beautiful lady who start to teach them.
After lessons they all return, and on the next day soldier flew by himself, follow Elena the Wise after lessons and came to her palace. Soldier(as a Bird) entertain Elena and didn't give her a chance to sleep. In the morning Elena and her servants have tried to catch a Bird, but the Bird only let Elena to take her.
When Elena slept, bird turned into soldier and kissed Elena. In the morning Elena opened up her Magic Book and recognize, that the Bird was a soldier.
First, she made an order to cut his head, but after he sang a song, she said if he will hide and she will not find him, she will married him. Otherwise, his head will be taken off.
Soldier asked a devil to help. Devil turns into an Eagle, took the soldier high to the skies, but Elena the Wise opened up magic book and said to Eagle- bring back the soldier from the skies, I found him.
In the last attempt, devil turned the soldier into a needle and put the needle into the magic book. Elena the Wise has opened up the book again and didn't see the soldier, the book was brocken... So, she gave up, the soldier appeared in front of her, and they married;)
The sides of the box are painted with animals and birds too.
The drawing is full of rich details. The artists have paid a great attention to the expressive faces of all characters, and to their costumes, drawing countless folds and grass.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Red lacquer covers the interior of the box and creamy lacquer is used to paint the exterior. The box has a hinge from the top of the composition and rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title -Yelena the Wise, and the village of Fedoskino on the base of the box.
