Description: This lovely composition of the Top Fedoskino Master Sergey Kovlov is showing us a charming beauty of the ancient Russian village.
Russian medieval architecture of white stoned cathedrals and ramshackle wooden peasant houses look harmonious in this Winter landscape. The scene is painted in white and dark blue tones of oils and this rather monotonous palette is enlivened by silver metal powder and mother-of-pearl inlays.
On the river we can see a small boat. Because of that we can indicade that this is the beggining of winter... Villagers just didn't have the time to take the boat out of the water untill the first snow...
In this work Kozlov has united two of his favorite themes - landscape and architecture and as usual here he displayed his high level of professionalism!
When you will take the box in hands, you will get a feeling, that the pinting is made over a piece of mother-of-pearl, that was inlayed in the WHOLE surface of the composition... Unfortunately, it was several large pieces. If you will look at the painting in angles, you will see that mother-of-pearl shines through the trees (the crowns and trunks of the trees, bushes, birds, walls and domes of the church, the reflection of the church in the water and the moon...
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The scene is framed with a golden line. The sides of the box are decorated with silver band made of "scan". Silver shapes cut out of gold and silver metal foil, and glued to the box manually(so called "scan"). The scan ornamentations of three bands wraps around the sides and ornamentation reminding the pine trees are coming out of the bands every inch/2.5 cm. Also the lid of the box which is out of the composition, are decorated with snowflackes painted in gold. Similar snowflackes are continued on the sides of the box...
A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2019.
