This complex multi-scene compositon was painted by talented Fedoskino artist, Pichugina Margarita.
It shows a scene from "The Tale of Tsar Saltan".
By the tsar's order, Tsar Saltan's wife and his son, Prince Gvidon, were sealed in the barrel that afterward was thrown into the sea. The barrel landed to a mysterious island. Getting out of the barrel Gvidon and his mother saw a magnificent palace where they would live later. They didn't know that this rich island would be Gvidon's property.
The painting is framed with a gold line. Two parallel gold lines can be found wrapping around the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and the box rests flat. The box is signed with the artist's name.
Then Gvidon has save Princess Swan from an evil bird and later on Gvidon and Princess swan has married.
Here we can see Princess Swan on the foreground, on the background- Beautiful Palace, ships on which Tsar Saltan is sailing to the island and to the left-Gvidon and his mother.
The composition is painted in bright blue and grey colors against the dark background. The artist using silver foil as an undrelayer for the painting of the costumes of Princess Swan and Gvidon's mother. Under the different angles that add shining to the composition.
