Description:

This original shaped and very detailed box has been painted by well-known Fedoskino artist Alexey Chirkov.
The box shows a forest witch Baba-Yaga with her servant- black cat on her shoulder and the basket full of fly-agaric mushrooms and other herbs, painted over several pieces of mother-of-pearl.
Baba-Yaga is the oldest character of the Slavonic mythology. Originally Baba-Yaga was the goddess of death; people imagined her as a woman with the snake tail who guarded the entrance into the other world and accompanied the souls of dead people into the Kingdom of the Dead.
Baba Yaga is the most famous figure in Russian fairy tales that represents evil. It is a character of such fairy-tales as "Marya Morevna", "Princess Frog", "The Tale of Life Water and Youth Giving Appels", and many others.
The composition is framed with a scrappy blanket like ornament.
The sides of the box are decorated with round ornament painted in silver and blue paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and a year of 2015.
