Description:

This interesting work was painted by a talented Fedoskino artist Vladimir Rogatov. The box shows Baba-Yaga flying on the cracked mortar through dark forest. Baba Yaga here looks very scary with her two canine teeth and slovenly hair. The box is looks like a five sided casket, with the paintings on the sides.
Baba-Yaga is the oldest character of the Slavonic mythology. Originally Baba-Yaga was the goddess of death; people imagined her as a woman with the snake tail who guarded the entrance into the other world and accompanied the souls of dead people into the Kingdom of the Dead.
On the sides of the box we can see different views of night forest. Forest is full of mushrooms, such as fly agarics and other poison mushrooms. Some of the trees are have the faces. On two of the sides there are skulls and bones...
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, 2019 and Fedoskino.
