One of the leading Fedoskino artists, Rogatov Dmitriy, is the author of this purse-shaped original painted box.
The work is called House Spirit and features a strange creature that lives in the housesd and appeared only at night, when homeowners are asleep. In ancient times people believed that any house or building is inhabited by a house spirit. House-spirits are the main characters of many Russian fairy-tales and stories.
The box is painted in black and white contrast colors.
The box is made out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the bottom of the box/paintings, and the box rests flat. The exterior of the piece is covered with black lacquer while the interior is covered with dark red lacquer. The work is signed with the name of the artist and the year of 2011.
