This festive five-sided box was painted by a talented artist Kachalkina Olga.
On the top of the box we can see a young girl holding a small pig in her hands.
The box is called "Village courtyard" and the sides of the box shows pieceful scenes of slow village life- a pig feeds its piglets, Sunflowers are growing, laundry dries on a rope, the pumpkin is lying on the bed...
The scene is painted in bright oil paints against black background to create a cheepful mood. Shining pieces of gold are used in the leaves of the Sunflowers and rich golden ornaments. The bars of the fence are also painted in gold!
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on two-sided platform. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, and 2008 at the exterior of the bottom.
