This very detailed composition, showing the several ships striving through the surge, was painted by the talented Fedoskino artist, Lidia Davydova.
The huge waves strike desperately against the rocky coast. Very soon the ships that have been washed a shore may break against the Rocks. A few daredevils have gathered on the shore and trying to signal the ships. They have lit a fire and are holding flaming torches above them...
Refined oil-painting techniques give this piece depth and life. The palette used is full of blue and grey paints to convey the marine and aquatic environment within the composition. Dark blue and gray tones are used to paint the skies that beautifully enlivens the composition. Great movement in the water is painted very naturally showing the seemingly random wave directions and the whitewater being blown off the crests of the waves. The detail in the crashing waves is incredible-the color is excellent!
Composition is framed with a gold line.Two parallel gold lines are wraps around the sides of the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Dark blue lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom. It is signed with the name of the artist, village of Fedoskino and 2016.
