Description: This marvelous original work of Andrey Borisov shows Baba-Yaga sitting in front of her hut on the chicken legs. She thoughtfully looks in front of her and holding vinyl disc in her hand. Two black cats are sit to the left and to the right of her. A large gramophone stands on a large stump from a felled tree.
Baba Yaga has been painted countless times by artists who redefine her image in creative and imaginative ways. This painting, once again, is able to convey a new feeling for the witch.
Baba-Yaga is the oldest character of the Slavonic mythology. Originally Baba-Yaga was the goddess of death; people imagined her as a woman with the snake tail who guarded the entrance into the other world and accompanied the souls of dead people into the Kingdom of the Dead.
The work is painted on a half-sphere box. Winter forest landscape is continued on the box's rear side. The smoke is coming from the chimney of the house.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work.
The lid is hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino, 2012 and the title ("Baba-Yaga").
