Description: This colorful box was painted by Boris Shavirin from the village of Fedoskino.
The box shows Market place in the 18th century in Russia. This theme is traditional for Russian lacquer miniature art and very popular among modern artists. On the front, we can see whealhy families.Husband and wife wear rich clothes, sewed with gold. Around them market people are trading, bargaining, selling all the goods. Small cafe on the right hand side invites to get some tea from Samovar.
The palette incorporates gray and white oils as the action takes place in winter, with addition of gold and silver metal paints. The artist demonstrates his unsurpassed skill while painting the charackter's festive attires. The effect of festivity is strengthened by the pieces of mother-of-pear inlaid into the costumes of the characters.
Several pieces of mother of pearl- white one in the wall of the building at the background and another white one is in the coat of the lady on the front.
To the left from her a piece of mother of pearl of green colour is in the coat of a beared "boyarin", a little green one- is in the cloth of the guy to the right, at the booth with samovar.
Nice piece of Fedoskino Art!!!
