Talented artist Larisa Olisova has painted this vivid and colourful work.
On the front of the composition we can see a pair flirting at the Masquarade. The face of lady is hidden behind the mask, and both major figures are dressed very rich. In the background there are also two figures. Lady's face is looks very pretty and not covered with glasses or mask, but she has a mask in her hand. A young boy to the right has a hat of a Jester and plays a tambourine.
The whole composition is richly decorated with several pieces of mother-of-pearl! One piece is lacated under the fan of a lady, the other one is behind the mask, that a lady from the back stage is holding in her arm and the last one is in the tambourine of Jester.
The sides of the box are decorated with the rich gold floral pattern. It is made by a carving over the sheets of gold glued to the surface of the sides.
The box is made of paper-mache and pressed paper. The exterior of the box is painted black, while red lacquer completes it's interior. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the village of Fedoskino, the title "Masquerade" and the artist's name.
