This interesting composition was painted by an established Fedoskino artist Marie Wagner.
On this casket we can see the moment when a knight put a ring on his beautiful lady's finger. Everything happens next to a small fountain. On the right, a young man is reading something from a notebook, and on the right in the background, a lady is playing the violin.
The palette is one commonly used by Wagner. Blues, greens and reds that are vivid and bright create the focal points in the scene. Wagner's style is one that is unique to Fedoskino, and can easily be distinguished from other artists' styles. Aluminum powder combined with the oil paints gives a luminescent quality to the clothing, the castle, landscape and to the sky in the background.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with dark red lacquer. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene. The box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and village of Fedoskino.
