Description:

This original shape box was painted by a well-known Fedoskino artist Marie Wagner.
The painting on a lid of the box shows a scene from the popular fairy-tale "Snow Maiden".
Young man and girls, old men and children are listening to a young shepherd lad, Lel, playing his flute. The Snow maiden is also here. She is enchanted by the wonderful tune and leads her suitor Mizgir by the hand closer towards Lel.
The composition is painted against the delicate blue and green background.
With the help of gold foil the artist creates the depht and glow of the characters' costumes.
The palette is very mostly dark and contrast. Green, blue, brown and red are dominated here. The shapes are enhanced by highlights put on folds of the clothing and other details. The characters are life-like, their faces are individualized, their gestures and movements are easy and natural!
Painting is continued on the sides of the box. We can see eight additional small paintings! We can see two girls letting wreaths of spring flowers down the river, followed by the continuation of the landscape, on the next side we see a guy with a girl in the forest. Then there is a side with the forest landscape follows again. A girl in a cockoshnik on her head stands with a bouquet of flowers, then a forest landscape follows again. Lel is sitting on a stump and playing a flute, and Snugurochka is leaning on a birch tree and listening to his melody. And the last side again shows a landscape with a river and an Orthodox church with several domes on the opposite side of the river.
The style and colors of Marie Wagner are very recognizible from other Fedoskino artists. She is quite ofet using aluminum powder/color as a inlay for the skies, forest trees, waters of the river, so all of them has the internal glow!
The edges of a lid and edges of the base of the box are decorated with intricate golden ornaments.
The box is made out of paper-mache made. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box.
The box has a hinge at the top of the composition and the box rests on the eight small round legs.
The box is singed with Fedoskino, date of 2020 and the name of the artist.
