Description: This is a masterfully painted work by a long established Kholuy master. Although Alexander Morozov is getting on in years, he is still able to create highly detailed, thoughtful, and original works.
The composition is very pretty and romantic. It shows farewell of a loving couple after their date. The date lasted the whole night long in spite of hard frost. Now it's an early morning and they have to part till the next date. The lad squeezes the girl's hand tenderly and doesn't want to let his sweet heart go home. The girl's mother peeps out of the house and orders her daughter to go home right now.
The characters are painted in warm yellow and red tones whereas the surrounding landscape is painted in cold blues suitable for depiction of a winter scene. Aluminum powder is used create glistening of the snow.
The elegantly shaped box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The edges of the lid and the box's sides are decorated with beautiful gold and aluminum patterns. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title ("Date"), and the village of Kholui.
