This interesting box called "Magic Lake" is the original work of the Kholui artist A. Kuznetsov. The box is shell shaped, and shows a lad and a girl looking at the bottom of the lake where swim different fish. This scene is painted in bright tempera paints, and richly detailed with gold paints. Inside the box there is a secret, a small ball that resembles a pearl. The ball is covered with the small miniature showing the golden fish swimming among water plants.
Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box's interior is decorated with gold and aluminum beads. The box is hinged and rests a flat bottom. It is signed with the artist's name, the title, and the village of Kholui on the lid's interior.
