This big plaque was painted by Modin from the village of Kholui. It shows a scene from the fairy-tale "By the Pike's Will" or "Emelya and the Magic Pike". In short, this tale is about a young man, Emelya, who finds a special fish that promises to fulfill all his wishes. Here the artist has chosen to depict the very moment of this thrilling tale. To his own surprise, Emelya catches the magic pike that can speak in a human voice. To save it's life, the fish promises the lad to fulfill all his wishes.
The characters are painted in bright red, yellow and green tones. The landscape is painted in dark blue and gray tones suitable for reproducing a winter evening. Gold paint is used to paint the stars and the crescent. The composition is framed with a gold line.
The plate is made out of paper-mache, and covered with black lacquer. It has two loops, and can be hung on the wall. The work is signed and titled by the artist.
