Description:

Andrey Bayov of Kholuy is the talented master responsible for the exceptional art work displayed here. Flawless drawing filled with the most tantalizing palette imagination can afford. An extremely clear compositional structure that identifies the master as a true professional.
The scene depicted on this box comes from the fairy tale, "Ruslan and Ludmilla." The story was originally written in free verse by the most famous of all Russian poets and writers, Alexander Pushkin in 1817. This is the scene where Ruslan encounters the Giant Head in a mist filled battlefield while on his quest to rescue Ludmilla from the evil sorcerer Chernomor. Ruslan was able to overtake the head by gouging his lance into it. Under the head there was a magical sword that he would be able to conquer any obstacle that might get in his way including Chernomor. Each facet of this dynamic scene is noticeable throughout the composition.
The palette is filled with grays, blues, browns and beiges. The chain mail draped over the horse, the armor worn by Ruslan, and the Head's helmet all maintain a noble luster.
Elegant gold patterns frame the scene, and another ornamentation painted in gold and aluminum paints wraps around the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge from the left of the composition and rests on a small platform. The artist wrote Kholui, the title ("Ruslan and the Giant Head"), and his name at the bottom of the painting.
