This original box was painted by Gryaznov Mikhail from the village of Kholui. It features Baba-Yaga from the fairy-tale "Vasilisa the Beautiful". The scene is painted in dark blue tempera paints as the action takes place during the night, and detailed with gold paints.
The scene is framed with elegant patterns painted in gold and aluminum. More elaborate gold and aluminum ornamentation can be found on the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The interior of the box is covered with red lacquer, the box's exterior is covered with black lacquer. The lid isn't hinged, and the box sits on four legs. The work is signed by the artist.
