This beautiful Kholui box painted by Orlov shows an impressive view of the white-stoned Rostov Kremlin situated in the ancient Russian town of Rostov. The white stoned cathedrals encircled by the massive defensive wall are lit by the cold moonlight in the darkness of a night.
The architecture is painted in cream and light pink tones whereas the surrounding landscape is drawn in green and dark blue tones. Shining gold paint is used to draw the cupolas, crosses, and roofs.
The box's exterior is adorned with rich and very intricate gold ornaments. In the middle of each of the box's sides the artist has drawn cupolas of a cathedral using gold paint.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on elegantly designed legs. The work is signed with Kholui, the title, and the artist's name.
