Viktor Kharchev is the author of this beautiful oval box. Here the artist has drawn a troika speeding along the street of the village of Kholui. Kharchev loves the place where he lives, and he demonstrates his affection towards the native land on this attractive box.
The scene is painted over silver powder to create a sparkle of the snow. Shining gold paint is used to detail the composition, and to paint the sky.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box's exterior is decorated with intricate gold ornaments accented with red and green tempera paints. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Kholui, the title ("Winter in Kholui") and the year of 2002.
