Description:

This splendid work painted by the famous Kholui artist, Vladimir Kiselyov, shows the beautiful views of the ancient Russian town of Yaroslavl. The unique Kiselyov's miniature painting covers the box's lid and all its four sides.
Yaroslavl is quite large town located 260 kilometers to the north from Moscow. It was founded by Yaroslav Mudry ("The Wise") in the 11th century.
The most part of the work depicts the medieval architecture of the Spassky monastery (Saviour monastery) situated in Yaroslavl. It was founded in the 12th century at the place where Kotorosl River meets Volga River. Nowadays, on the territory of the monastery there's also a museum of history of Yaroslav region, and an exhibition of ancient Russian paintings, crafts, old hand-written and printed books.
Each scene is painted in bright tempera paints and richly detailed with gold metal paint.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Kholui, the year of 2005 and the title (“The Town of Yaroslavl”).
