Description:

This beautiful box was created by the talented Vladimir Kiseleov from the village of Kholui.
The box shows Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky's residence. It was built in 1158-1164 by the Prince Andrey Bogolyubsky, and it is one of the most poetic structures of Ancient Russia.
The village of Bogolyubovo is situated on the high bank of the former river of Klyazma. It's 14 km to the East from Vladimir. Bogolyubovo was founded in the middle of the 12th century by prince Andrei Bogolyubsky as a royal residence in the outskirts of the capital city of Vladimir. It was mentioned as a city in the List of Russian cities as early as the 14th century. It consisted of the Southern royal part with white stone cathedral and a yard and the Northern part where the town people lived.
Since the end of the 12th century there was a monastery in the former residence.According to the legend, Andrey Bogolyubsky built this cathedral after the death of his son, Izyaslav.
This lacquer box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box is not hinged. The piece comes to rest upon three feet.
An inscription can be found written upon the lid's interior. It announces this piece as an author's original work, the title of the scene, the village name of Kholui and the year of 2004 of which the piece was finished. The artist also wrote his name, the title-Bogolyubovo, the village name of Kholui at the bottom of the composition. All of this writing is completed with gold paint.
