This magnificent five-sided box is a creation of the famous Kholui artist, Vladimir Kiselyov. It continues his series of works dedicated to the fauna of Russia. On the box's lid he has painted the lynx and its cub lying on the forest glade; the box's front side shows the badger; the left side shows the hedgehog; the right side depicts the squirrel, and the rear side shows the ermine.
The work is painted in the unique Kiselyov's style. Every animal is painted to look how it would in nature. The details are enhanced with gold metal paint.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box's exterior is decorated with elegant gold ornaments accented with aluminum. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Kholui, the title (“Fauna of Russia”), the year of 2003 and the confirmation that this work is Kiselyov's own original creation.
